JOB SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

The CDL Yard Driver will play a vital role in transporting dairy product between UDA facilities in Tempe, AZ. The CDL Yard Driver will operate a diesel-powered tractor trailer combination to transport and deliver liquid product in a timely and safe manner, to ensure product quality and freshness.

 

CDL YARD DRIVER PRIMARY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Inspect truck for defects before and after trips and submit reports including truck condition.
  • Maintain driver log according to I.C. regulations and DOT.
  • Examine milk to detect sediment or stale odor, and take samples to laboratory for analysis.
  • observe gauge of storage tanks, computers and record weight of milk in tank.
  • observes temperature of storage tanks and record temperatures.
  • Connect hoses and turn valves to pump milk into truck.
  • Proper and accurate testing and quality of product that is required by management.  
  • Accurate written documentation of all required paperwork.  
  • Communicate with Transportation Foreman and Supervision.
  • Always maintain food safety and quality standards, resolving and/or reporting compliance issues immediately.

CDL DRIVER QUALIFICATIONS:
Skills & Abilities: 

  • Ability to drive diesel powered tractor trailer combination to transport and deliver liquid product. 
  • Must be able to work varying shifts, including nights, weekends, and holiday hours
  • General knowledge of mechanical and instrumentation equipment
  • Requires ability to read, hear, speak, and comprehend and carry out verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to participate and adhere to all practices, policies, pay rates, and membership dues of a labor union

Experience:

  • Minimum 6 months experience driving a 10-speed transmission vehicle, with Class A CDL and Tanker endorsement and/or recent truck driving school certification

Education/Certifications: 

  • High School Diploma or Educational Equivalent
  • Truck Driving School certificate
  • Must have clean driving record 
  • CDL Class A with Tanker endorsements 


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires the ability to sit for prolonged periods of time
  • Requires the ability to operate a motor vehicle for multiple hours at a time
  • Requires ability to walk and stand
  • Requires ability to stoop, bend, reach, lift and carry items up to 55lbs
  • Requires the ability to climb ladders and stairs of various heights occasionally
  • Requires the ability to push and pull large items up to 150lbs frequently
  • Requires the ability to safely operate equipment
  • Requires ability to visually observe the condition of surroundings
  • Requires ability to work in varying extreme hot, cold, and wet temperatures and conditions
  • Requires the ability to work safely with hazardous chemicals
  • Requires ability to hear and speak, occasionally in high time weighted average environments with elevated decibel readings (using appropriate hearing protection)
  • Requires the ability to safely operate a forklift occasionally
